The re-roofing of Selwyn Court, formerly known as Bishopscourt, called for a roofing material that would respect the character and architectural heritage of the building while providing a durable solution for its next chapter. 18” Treated Cedar Shingles, were selected to reinstate the distinctive natural character of the roof.

Installer: ACMF – Ethan McQuaid
Product: 18” Treated Cedar Shingles

The Challenge:
Re-roofing an established character building requires a careful balance between preserving its architectural identity and meeting contemporary expectations for performance and longevity. The new roof needed to remain sympathetic to the building’s form and materiality, making the choice of roofing material an important part of retaining its overall character.

The Solution:
18” Treated Cedar Shingles were selected for their natural texture, warmth, and ability to complement the architecture of Selwyn Court. Cedar creates a richly detailed roof surface that will weather naturally over time, allowing the roof to continue developing character as it ages.

The treated shingles provide an enhanced level of protection while retaining the authentic appearance and variation inherent in natural cedar. Installed by ACMF, the new roof brings renewed performance to the building while remaining sensitive to its established architectural expression.

The completed re-roofing demonstrates how a traditional natural material can be used to preserve the character of an existing building while giving its roof a renewed lease on life.
